Richmond offers a range of health and emergency facilities, with a large selection of services provided by the Richmond Health Service, the Richmond Aged Care Program, and the Richmond Surgery, as well as a number of other providers.  

Richmond Surgery

Richmond Surgery is a General Practice operated by a permanent GP. The surgery bulk bills all eligible medical services. Services available include family planning, pregnancy tests, ante-natal care, blood tests, minor surgery, liquid nitrogen therapy, weight control, skin checks, medicals, immunisations and of course, standard GP consults, and house calls.

Richmond Health Service provides an accident and emergency service, general medical / surgical ward, long stay elder care and a daily outpatient session. The service also hosts a range of visiting clinics and health professionals both from within Queensland Health, and federally funded Allied Health services. Visiting clinics include optometry, school oral health, dietetics, podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and dentistry.

Community health services include a community nurse, child health nurse and visiting school-based youth health nurse. The centre also has ATODS (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs), community mental health and social workers through their outreach services. 'Well Women's Clinics' are also available to the community which offer free pap smears and confidential advice to women by a women's health GP.


Richmond Aged Care

Richmond Aged Care Program provides a friendly and efficient service to enable residents to remain in their own homes for as long as possible.   Richmond Aged Care Program delivers 3 levels of care, enabling care to be tailored to each client's needs.  Richmond Shire Council also has some independent living units which are suitable for Aged care clients who are able to live independently at home.  Clients in the units may access Aged care services, should they wish to.

Medicare Local

Townsville-Mackay Medicare Local offers a number of allied health services to the Richmond region.

They include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Diabetes Educator
  • Podiatrist
  • Dietician
  • Physiotherapist
  • Psychologist

Services are provided across two teams every 3 weeks (OT, Dietician and Diabetes Educator one week) and (Podiatrist, Physiotherapist and Psychologist the next trip).

Royal Flying Doctor Service

The RFDS is dedicated to providing vital health care to all those who live, work or travel in rural, remote and regional areas of Queensland.

The Flying Doctor's emergency retrieval service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has expanded to provide transfers of patients to larger hospitals for life-saving surgery such as organ transplants and heart surgery.

The RFDS also delivers essential primary health care services to rural and remote communities, including general practice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, child and family health, social and emotional wellbeing, women's health and health promotion.
